Present Perfect बनाम Past Simple (since/for/yesterday)

Present Perfect vs Past Simple (since/for/yesterday)

जब वाक्य में बीते हुए समय का निश्चित शब्द (yesterday, last year, ago, in 2010) दिया हो, तो हमेशा Past Simple (Subject + V2) का प्रयोग करें। यहाँ Present Perfect (has/have + V3) का प्रयोग गलत होता है।

उदाहरण

आम गलती

💡 यदि वाक्य में समय फिक्स (कल, पिछला साल, ago) है, तो बस V2 लगाओ। 'Have' को दूर रखो। - If time is fixed (yesterday, last year, ago), just use V2. Keep 'have' away.

नियम 2: Present Perfect (अनिश्चित समय और प्रभाव)

जब काम हाल ही में हुआ हो या उसका प्रभाव अभी भी हो, तो Present Perfect (Subject + has/have + V3) का उपयोग करें। इसके साथ just, already, yet, recently, ever, never जैसे शब्द आते हैं।

उदाहरण

आम गलती

💡 अगर वाक्य में 'अभी' (just/already) का भाव है, तो 'has/have + V3' का इस्तेमाल करें। - If the sentence implies 'now' (just/already), use 'has/have + V3'.

नियम 3: Since और For का सही चुनाव

Since का प्रयोग 'निश्चित समय' (Point of time - 2010, Monday, morning, childhood) के लिए होता है। For का प्रयोग 'अवधि' (Period of time - 2 hours, 5 years, a long time) के लिए होता है।

उदाहरण

आम गलती

💡 अगर समय को गिना जा सके (2 घंटे, 4 साल), तो 'For' लगाएं। अगर नाम दिया हो (सोमवार, 2010), तो 'Since' लगाएं। - If time can be counted (2 hours, 4 years), use 'For'. If named (Monday, 2010), use 'Since'.

English version — Present Perfect vs Past Simple (since/for/yesterday)

Hindi-medium students often struggle to distinguish between Present Perfect and Past Simple because both often translate similarly in Hindi. Exams test this based on time markers. These notes will teach you to choose the correct tense based on the time context.

Rule 1: Past Simple (Definite Past Time)

When a definite past time marker (yesterday, last year, ago, in 2010) is given, always use Past Simple (Subject + V2). Using Present Perfect (has/have + V3) here is incorrect.

Rule 2: Present Perfect (Indefinite Time and Relevance)

When an action happened recently or has current relevance, use Present Perfect (Subject + has/have + V3). Words like just, already, yet, recently, ever, never are used here.

Rule 3: Correct choice of Since and For

Since is used for a 'point of time' (2010, Monday, morning, childhood). For is used for a 'period of time' (2 hours, 5 years, a long time).
