हिंदी से अंग्रेजी अनुवाद में होने वाली आम गलतियां (Literal Translation Errors)

Literal Translation Errors from Hindi to English

लेकिन अंग्रेजी में अधिकार (possession) बताने के लिए 'have/has' का प्रयोग होता है, 'is/am/are having' का नहीं।

, "tip_en": "Use 'have/has' for possession and 'know' for knowledge; avoid '-ing' on these stative verbs in exams.

नियम 2: 'Told to' और 'I am agree' जैसी क्रिया संबंधी बुनियादी गलतियां

हिंदी में हम कहते हैं 'उसने मुझसे कहा' (He told to me) या 'मैं सहमत हूँ' (I am agree)। अंग्रेजी में 'tell' के तुरंत बाद व्यक्ति (object) आता है, बीच में 'to' नहीं लगता। इसी प्रकार 'agree' स्वयं एक क्रिया (verb) है, इसलिए इसके साथ 'is/am/are' नहीं लगाया जाता। यह गलती SSC Indirect Speech और Error Spotting में बहुत आती है।

उदाहरण

आम गलती

💡 याद रखें: Tell + Person (बिना 'to' के)। Agree एक Action/State Verb है: I agree बोलो, I am agree नहीं।", "tip_en": "Remember: Tell + direct person (no 'to'). Write 'I agree', never 'I am agree'.

नियम 3: समय और अवधि बताने में 'Since/For' और Tense की गलतियां

हिंदी में हम कहते हैं 'मैं दो साल से रह रहा हूँ' या 'मैं तीन दिन से आ रहा हूँ'। अंग्रेजी में समय की कुल अवधि (duration) के लिए 'for' और निश्चित शुरुआती बिंदु (point of time) के लिए 'since' लगता है। साथ ही, जब काम भूतकाल से शुरू होकर अब तक चल रहा हो, तब 'is/am/are + v-ing' नहीं बल्कि 'has/have been + v-ing' (Present Perfect Continuous) का प्रयोग होता है। SSC में 'since two years' वाली गलती बहुत बार पूछी जाती है।

उदाहरण

आम गलती

💡 संख्या + वर्ष/दिन/घंटे = FOR लगाओ। समय का नाम (सोमवार, 2010, सुबह) = SINCE लगाओ। Tense होगा HAS/HAVE BEEN।", "tip_en": "Use 'for' with time numbers/duration and 'since' with starting names/dates alongside Perfect tenses.

नियम 4: 'One of my friend' और 'Myself' का गलत प्रयोग

💡 'One of' दिखे तो Noun में 'S/ES' चेक करो (Plural Noun)। अपना परिचय हमेशा 'I am...' या 'My name is...' से दो।", "tip_en": "Always put a plural noun after 'One of'. Start introductions with 'I am' or 'My name is'.

नियम 5: भारतीय अंग्रेजी के आम शब्द और मुहावरे (Indianisms)

हम हिंदी की आदतों के कारण अंग्रेजी में कुछ ऐसे शब्द बोल देते हैं जो मानक अंग्रेजी (Standard English) में गलत माने जाते हैं। जैसे: 'शुभ नाम' का 'good name', 'एक काम करो' का 'do one thing', 'समय पहले करना' का 'prepone', 'कॉलेज खत्म करना' के लिए 'pass out', या किसी बात से मना करने के लिए 'tell me no'। SSC परीक्षा में इन अनौपचारिक/गलत प्रयोगों पर सीधे प्रश्न बनते हैं।

उदाहरण

आम गलती

💡 कॉलेज की पढ़ाई पूरी होने पर 'graduated' बोलो, 'passed out' नहीं ('passed out' का अर्थ बेहोश होना है)। 'Good name' शब्द मानक अंग्रेजी में नहीं होता।", "tip_en": "Use 'graduated' for university completion and 'name' without 'good' for identity in standard English.

English version — Literal Translation Errors from Hindi to English

Hindi-medium students often attempt word-for-word translation from Hindi to English. Consequently, they mark sentences as correct in exams that violate English grammar rules. SSC and Railway exams frequently test these exact literal translation traps.

Rule 1: Misuse of Continuous Tense with Stative Verbs ('Having' and 'Knowing')

Stative verbs showing possession (have) or knowledge (know) are not used in the continuous tense (-ing form) when expressing standard possession or knowledge. Always use Simple Present or Present Perfect instead.

Examples

Common mistakes

Rule 2: Basic Verb Structure Errors ('Told to' and 'I am agree')

The verb 'tell' takes a direct object without the preposition 'to'. Also, 'agree' is a verb on its own, so we say 'I agree' rather than 'I am agree'.

Examples

Common mistakes

Rule 3: Errors in Time Expressions, Prepositions, and Tenses ('Since/For')

Use 'for' for a total duration of time and 'since' for a specific starting point. When an action started in the past and continues up to the present, use Present Perfect Continuous, not Present Continuous.

Examples

Common mistakes

Rule 4: Structure Errors in 'One of...' and Reflexive Subject Pronouns

'One of' must always be followed by a plural noun because you choose one from a larger group. Also, reflexive pronouns like 'myself' cannot function as the subject of a sentence.

Examples

Common mistakes

Rule 5: Common Indianisms and Direct Literal Phrase Translations

Literal translations of Hindi phrases lead to non-standard Indianisms like 'good name', 'do one thing', 'prepone', or misusing 'pass out' for graduating. Exams test standard global English equivalents.
