📖 किताब की तरह पढ़ें📝 इस परीक्षा का मॉक टेस्ट

SSC और Railway की परीक्षाओं में Idioms (मुहावरे) बहुत पूछे जाते हैं। इनका शाब्दिक अर्थ (Literal meaning) अलग होता है और असली अर्थ कुछ और, इसलिए हिंदी माध्यम के छात्र अक्सर गलती कर देते हैं। इस भाग में हम 15 महत्वपूर्ण Idioms को उनके अर्थ और उदाहरण के साथ समझेंगे।

थीम: कमज़ोरी और दुविधा (Achilles heel)

इसका अर्थ है 'किसी का सबसे कमज़ोर पक्ष' (A weak point)। यूनानी कथाओं के अनुसार, योद्धा एच्लीस का पूरा शरीर शक्तिशाली था लेकिन उसकी एड़ी (heel) कमज़ोर थी, जहाँ चोट लगने से उसकी मृत्यु हो गई।

उदाहरण

आम गलती

💡 इसे 'एड़ी' (heel) से याद रखें, जो शरीर का एक छोटा हिस्सा है पर चोट लगने पर चलना मुश्किल कर देता है।

थीम: मुसीबत और अधिकार (Off the hook)

इसका अर्थ है 'मुसीबत या ज़िम्मेदारी से बच निकलना' (Out of trouble)। जैसे मछली का काँटे (hook) से छूट जाना।

उदाहरण

आम गलती

💡 मछली पकड़ने वाले 'hook' को याद करें; उससे छूटने का मतलब है आज़ाद होना।

On the carpet

इसके दो अर्थ हैं: 1. चर्चा के अधीन (Under discussion) 2. डाँट खाना (To be scolded by authority)।

उदाहरण

आम गलती

💡 पुराने समय में जब किसी को डाँटने के लिए बड़े अधिकारी के कमरे में बुलाया जाता था, तो उसे कालीन (carpet) पर खड़ा होना पड़ता था।

थीम: स्वास्थ्य और स्वभाव (Off color)

इसका अर्थ है 'अस्वस्थ महसूस करना' (Not feeling well)। जब कोई थोड़ा बीमार या कमज़ोर दिखे।

उदाहरण

आम गलती

💡 जब हम बीमार होते हैं, तो चेहरे की रंगत (color) उड़ जाती है (off हो जाती है)।

Out of sorts

इसका अर्थ है 'तबीयत ठीक न होना' या 'चिड़चिड़ा महसूस करना' (Ill or irritable)।

उदाहरण

आम गलती

💡 इसे 'Out of order' (खराब होना) की तरह याद रखें; जब आपका मूड या शरीर 'out of order' हो।

थीम: व्यक्तित्व और कौशल (Oily tongue)

इसका अर्थ है 'चापलूसी भरी बातें करना' (Flattering words)। जो व्यक्ति मीठी-मीठी बातें करके अपना काम निकालता है।

उदाहरण

आम गलती

💡 तेल (oil) चीज़ों को चिकना बनाता है; 'oily tongue' वाला व्यक्ति चिकनी-चुपड़ी बातें करता है।

Past master

इसका अर्थ है 'किसी काम में माहिर या विशेषज्ञ होना' (An expert)।

उदाहरण

आम गलती

💡 जो व्यक्ति 'past' (अतीत) से काम करता आ रहा है, वह उस काम का 'master' बन जाता है।

One's cup of tea

इसका अर्थ है 'पसंद की चीज़' (Something one likes or is good at)। अक्सर इसका प्रयोग नकारात्मक (not my cup of tea) रूप में होता है।

उदाहरण

आम गलती

💡 जैसे हर किसी को एक ही तरह की चाय पसंद नहीं होती, वैसे ही हर काम हर किसी की पसंद का नहीं होता।

थीम: समय और स्थिति (Off and on)

इसका अर्थ है 'कभी-कभी' या 'रुक-रुक कर' (Occasionally/Now and then)।

उदाहरण

आम गलती

💡 बिजली के स्विच (Switch) की तरह सोचें; कभी On, कभी Off यानी निरंतर नहीं।

Palmy days

इसका अर्थ है 'खुशहाली और सफलता के दिन' (Prosperous or happy days)।

उदाहरण

आम गलती

💡 Palm (ताड़ का पेड़) शांति और जीत का प्रतीक माना जाता है, वहीं से यह शब्द आया है।

On its last legs

इसका अर्थ है 'खत्म होने की कगार पर' या 'टूटने वाला' (About to collapse or stop working)।

उदाहरण

आम गलती

💡 कल्पना करें कि कोई मेज़ या जानवर अपने आखिरी पैरों पर टिका है, यानी वह अब गिरने ही वाला है।

थीम: विविध और पूर्णता (Odds and ends)

इसका अर्थ है 'फुटकर या छोटी-मोटी चीज़ें' (Small, miscellaneous things)।

Out and out

इसका अर्थ है 'पूरी तरह से' या 'कट्टर' (Completely/In every respect)।

उदाहरण

आम गलती

💡 इसे 'अंदर और बाहर' (In and out) की तरह समझें, जो चीज़ हर तरफ से वैसी ही हो।

Over and above

इसका अर्थ है 'के अलावा' या 'के अतिरिक्त' (In addition to)।

उदाहरण

💡 इसे 'Plus' की तरह याद रखें; जो चीज़ तय सीमा के 'ऊपर' (above) हो।
